Suzuki Program

Suzuki Program

Nurturing young musicians—and the whole child

Suzuki instruction is available in violin, viola, cello, piano, and guitar.

At Hoff-Barthelson Music School, we believe that music education should be joyful, encouraging, and deeply rooted in a child’s natural capacity to learn. Our Suzuki Program, inspired by the groundbreaking philosophy of Shinichi Suzuki, embraces the idea that children learn music the same way they learn language—with care, support, and immersion from an early age.

Dr. Suzuki’s revolutionary insight—that every child has the potential to develop musical ability just as they acquire speech—forms the foundation of our program. Just as children learn to speak by listening, imitating, and practicing in a nurturing environment, so too can they learn to play an instrument. And just like language, music becomes a lifelong part of who they are.

At Hoff-Barthelson, we view the Suzuki Method as more than just a way to teach music; it’s a powerful way to help children grow into confident, curious, and expressive individuals.

What Sets Our Program Apart

Designed for children ages 4 to 7, our Suzuki Program offers a carefully sequenced curriculum that grows with each child. We tailor instruction to match a child’s developmental readiness—never rushing, always encouraging.

Our program includes:

  • Weekly individual lessons and group classes
  • Professional accompaniment for practice and performances
  • Weekly musicianship classes to build ear training and rhythm skills
  • Ensembles—including orchestra and chamber music—for advancing students
  • Weekly parent classes for violin and piano, supporting caregivers as active partners in the learning journey
  • Student Progress Support – evaluations, reports, and access to deans

A Vibrant Community

Performance is an essential part of the Suzuki experience. Students share their progress at recitals in November and May, take part in our HBMS music festivals, and look forward each spring to the joyful Suzuki Porch Parties—a favorite tradition where families come together to celebrate the year’s accomplishments in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
