Since our founding in 1944, master class coaching by renowned guest artists has been a cornerstone of the Hoff-Barthelson Music School experience. This proud tradition continues each season with visits from an extraordinary roster of internationally celebrated performers and educators who represent the highest levels of artistry and pedagogy.
Master classes at Hoff-Barthelson are designed to challenge and inspire. After months of preparation, selected students perform for a master teacher in front of an audience of peers, families, and faculty, receiving personalized feedback that encourages deeper musical exploration. These coaching sessions offer students the chance to refine their technique, enhance their interpretive skills, and discover new perspectives on their repertoire. Through this process, they gain a deeper understanding of their craft, often achieving breakthrough moments that fuel their continued growth.
What makes master classes truly special is that the learning extends beyond the performer. Observing students—whether they play the same instrument or not—gain invaluable insights into the art of performance, interpretation, and critique. Each class offers an opportunity for all attendees to learn something new, making these events a rich educational experience for musicians at every stage of their journey.
Master classes are open to the public and free to attend. We encourage everyone to join us in witnessing these enriching and thought-provoking musical exchanges.
