Saturday Orchestra Program for 5th Grade String Players
A new chapter in music education is unfolding for young musicians in the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District. Through a dynamic partnership with Hoff-Barthelson Music School, 5th-grade string students—violin, viola, cello, and bass—now have the opportunity to join the Saturday Orchestra Program, an immersive ensemble experience led by acclaimed conductor Dr. Leandro Gazineo.
Inspired by the philosophy of El Sistema—the internationally recognized model that uses ensemble music-making as a vehicle for youth development—the program emphasizes both artistic growth and social connection. Students learn to support one another, work toward shared goals, and experience the joy of belonging to a community built around music.
Working alongside Hoff-Barthelson’s expert faculty, participants refine their ensemble skills, deepen their musical understanding, and discover the rewards of making music together. The program blends high artistic standards with a spirit of joy and discovery, helping young musicians build confidence, creativity, and lasting friendships.
The season is punctuated by two major performances—December 2025 and May 2026—when the orchestra takes the stage to share its accomplishments with family, friends, and the wider community.
