Robert Williamson is a New York-based trumpet player, composer, and educator whose work spans classical, contemporary, jazz, and improvised music. He performs throughout the city in chamber, orchestral, musical, commercial, and interdisciplinary settings, with professional appearances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and venues across all five boroughs. Additionally, he coordinates community programming with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s annual NYC Five Borough Tour and Free School Concerts Series as an arts administrator.
Robert holds a Master of Music degree from the Mannes School of Music at The New School, where he studied with Mark Gould and Brandon Ridenour. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance from Virginia Commonwealth University under the mentorship of Rex Richardson, Brian Strawley, and Taylor Barnett. His training also includes intensive study in London with Paul Beniston (London Philharmonic Orchestra) as part of a VCU Global Research Fellowship in applied trumpet, and at The Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale. As a dynamic composer and collaborator, Robert is especially interested in projects that integrate electroacoustic composition, multimedia, and live improvisation.
As an educator, Robert is especially passionate about guiding students in the formative stages of their musical growth. His teaching is rooted in the belief that every student holds the potential to develop a distinct and expressive musical voice. Above all, he strives to foster an environment of deep curiosity, confidence, and joy that can inspire a lifelong relationship with music.
