Honors Program

Honors Program

Excellence elevated—the HBMS Honors Program

The Honors Program at Hoff-Barthelson Music School offers an enriching opportunity for students who demonstrate exceptional musical talent, commitment, and a strong desire to grow. Open to students age 12 and older—though exceptionally gifted younger students may be considered—the program provides an elevated experience that deepens artistic development through advanced study and performance.

Honors students engage in a rigorous curriculum that includes participation in ensembles and musicianship classes, regular solo performances, and special adjudicated Honors Recitals. These recitals, held at the end of each semester, offer students the opportunity to perform repertoire for evaluation and feedback. Students also attend at least one professional performance each year to broaden their exposure to high-level artistry.

Evaluation is an important component of the Honors experience. After each Honors Recital, students receive written feedback from the adjudicating panel, which includes the Honors Program Coordinator and two additional faculty members. This feedback is shared with students and families through the private lesson teacher and is intended to guide continued growth. Students who fulfill all program expectations and maintain a high level of performance receive an Honors Certificate at the end of the academic year, and graduating seniors may be eligible for a special Honors Award.

Auditions for the program are held each June and September and include scale work and contrasting repertoire. Admission is based on both technical skill and musical maturity.

To learn more about eligibility, audition requirements, and what participation entails, students should speak directly with their private lesson teacher.
