At Hoff-Barthelson Music School, private lessons are more than weekly instruction—they are the gateway to a comprehensive, performance-driven education. The School’s deep commitment to artistic excellence is rooted in the belief that performance is essential to musical growth. Through regular opportunities to perform in recitals, master classes, workshops, and special events, students develop poise, confidence, and technical mastery. Supported by expert faculty and a nurturing community, each student is encouraged to reach their highest potential, both in and beyond the studio.

Our Faculty
Our distinguished faculty comprises professional performing artists and dedicated educators, many of whom hold advanced degrees from leading conservatories and universities. They bring a wealth of experience to their teaching and are committed to helping each student achieve their musical goals through a personalized and supportive approach.
Private Instruction
All private lesson students have unlimited access to our Performance Program, which includes recitals, studio classes, master classes, workshops, and special events. These opportunities allow students to build confidence, refine their performance skills, and engage with a vibrant musical community.
Students may enroll in one of two ways:
Lesson-Only
Ideal for students seeking focused one-on-one instruction. This includes 32 private lessons over two 16-week semesters and the Performance Program..
Comprehensive Packages
Designed for students who want a well-rounded musical education, these packages combine private lessons with additional classes, ensembles, musicianship training, and the Performance Program:
- Lesson Plus One: Includes one additional class or ensemble
- Lesson Plus Two: Includes two additional classes or ensembles
- Lesson Plus Three or More: Includes three or more additional classes or ensembles, providing the richest experience
Comprehensive packages offer a more immersive experience and are highly recommended for students seeking to deepen their engagement with music.
Performance Program and Enrichment Opportunities
All private lesson students are encouraged to participate in our robust Performance Program, which includes:
- Student Recitals held throughout the year
- Workshops and Master Classes with guest artists and faculty
- Studio Classes to share and refine repertoire with peers
- Festival Performances and Special Events
These experiences are designed to build confidence, musicianship, and stage presence.
For students studying instruments or voice that require accompaniment, Hoff-Barthelson offers access to highly skilled professional accompanists. Our accompanists are available to collaborate in lessons and rehearsals, and support students in studio classes, recitals, workshops, and auditions.
Scheduling and Lesson Lengths
Students receive 32 lessons per academic year, typically spread over two 16-week semesters. Private instruction is available in the following time increments:
- 30 minutes
- 45 minutes
- 60 minutes
- 75-, 90- and 120-minute lessons and every other week lessons are available.
Summer study is also available for students who wish to continue lessons year-round.

Student Placement
We take great care in matching each student with the teacher best suited to their learning style, experience, personality, and aspirations. Placement is based on a conversation with our Dean and informed by faculty availability and expertise.
